Indoor Sports Field Proposed in Rome

Brandon Lovett of the Rome Parks and Recreation Department joined Bob & Rick in the Morning discussed the proposed indoor sports field and complex at Kennedy Arena, located on on Embargo St. in Rome. The proposal lacks funding – but the hope is to secure the needed resources by 2016 and get the project developed. The main benefit to the site at Kennedy Arena is that it would be attached to a known and operating facility that could offer support to users of the indoor athletic field.  Take a closer look of the proposal in the image below. Rob Tracy, Republican Candidate for Rome Mayor, discusses issues concerning Rome, NY on the air with Bob & Rick in the Morning. Rome’s population has been on a downward trend since the 1960s.  According to Tracy, this is Rome’s underlying problem — the source of several monetary issues facing Rome.  There are “fewer and fewer people paying for ever increasing costs to run the city,” Tracy says. “We have to attract people to our community.” Tracy cites the city’s tax rates as one reason prospective residents are deterred.  Rome’s taxes are the highest in Oneida County. Rome Lions Clubs Seeks Proposals for Collaborative Grant

The Rome Lions Club is offering up to $10,000 to a worthy non-profit organization — or that amount in smaller allocations to multiple organizations — for a collaborative project that will better our community.  The project must target hunger, youth, vision, or environmental issues, and the organization must be based in the Greater Rome Area. An informational meeting is scheduled for 7PM this Thursday, February 19th, in the Rome Common Council Chambers at City Hall.  Applications are due at the end of March.  Interested organizations should contact the Rome Lions Club via e-mail at romelionsclub@gmail.com or call 527-2138. Rome Remembers 9/11/01

Rome Mayor Joe Fusco attended the wreath laying ceremony this morning at Griffo Green at Rome City Hall – marking the 13th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. The Mayor led attendees in a moment of silence to remember the men and women who lost their lives in the attack and other 9/11 related tragedies. The wreath was donated by Mike Gilbert of Mike’s Lawn Care.
