ESPN: Celtics Trade Green to Grizzlies

Stephen Dunn/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — The Boston Celtics have agreed to trade forward Jeff Green to the Memphis Grizzlies in return for Tayshaun Prince, according to ESPN.

ESPN.com reports that the deal could include a third team.

The Celtics have been attempting to deal Green because the 28-year-old is expected to opt out of his contract in July to become a free agent. If that happened, Boston could have lost Green without anything in return.

Prince’s $7.7 million contract expires after this season. He’s played in 25 games for the Grizzlies this season, averaging 7.4 points and 3.2 rebounds.

Green has started 33 games for the Celtics this season, averaging a career high 17.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.

Before this deal, the Celtics traded center Brandan Wright to the Phoenix Suns for a conditional future first-round pick via Minnesota.
